Volunteering Tonight

I took the time to volunteer at the Obama office here in Dallas. It was neat to talk to people in Ohio and see what they were feeling about Obama. It was also interesting to see that in a state he is not scheduled or predicted to win, there were so many people moved enough to work and call and volunteer. From high school students all the way up to a 98 year old woman; they were all contributing and giving what they could to the campaign.

It really makes me wonder why more people have not gotten behind a candidate before.

We all know the real reason for that. It takes a candidate of a generation. Someone with unusual attraction for al people cause people like me to get involved.

It is beyond him being black. It goes beyond my dislike of GW. I was one of those people who had great respect for John McCain. I was one who thought that finally we would have an honest campaign about issues where I could decide based on intelligent discussion. A conversation that I have dreamed of for a long time.

The funny thing is that I never thought the conversation would be so one sided. I never thought a campaign would move me to donate, money or my time. Now we have a choice. It has moved me to act and take a side. Tomorrow we decide who will lead the US for the next 4 years (hopefully if he is successful 8 years); take the time to really think about what has happened and what we face.

In my live as a student, as a man of Kappa Alpha Psi, as an educated man who loves history, and as a person who loves this country; I have never wanted so badly for someone to win the presidency. I understand the history of what this means (My mother is a child of the 1960’s), I also know that it could not have happened if the bridge between people, and the involvement of all the volunteers and staff hadn’t happened.

To all the people that have donated money and time, Thank You for your work on behalf of a majority of the country.

Now let’s close the deal!!! Let’s win it tomorrow!!!
